Becoming An Ancestor Worth Remembering
I am a social entrepreneur and life coach with a rich history of developing innovative solutions to improve education and personal development from Harlem to Kenya to India to the Mississippi Delta.
Hans Hageman is a social entrepreneur, educator, and advocate for marginalized communities, especially youth. Raised in Harlem, New York, his life's work is shaped by the challenges and lessons learned in his community. A graduate of Princeton University and Columbia Law School, Hans initially pursued a legal career, serving as a prosecutor, public defender, and chief counsel to a U.S. Senate subcommittee. However, his true calling emerged in the fields of youth development and education.
He has founded independent schools in Harlem, NY aimed at dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline and co-founded a girls’ school in India for lower-caste students. His impact stretches across continents, from the U.S. to Africa, where he has empowered young people through creativity, resilience-building, and wellness initiatives. Hans is recognized for his innovative programs, including gardening and breathwork for incarcerated youth, and for his leadership in civil rights through his work in the Mississippi Delta and at the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Institute.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Hans has a strong commitment to leaving a legacy of hope, resilience, and positive change. His multifaceted career, which includes military service, is a testament to his dedication to social justice and empowering future generations.
